An International Footwear Design Career

Max's career spans more than a decade of experience working with leading international footwear and fashion brands.

She previously served as Chief Designer for Greater China for MCM Footwear and Hush Puppies, where she was involved in footwear product planning, design development and collection creation. Her work has been showcased through major fashion events across Asia.

Her professional experience also includes senior merchandising and product planning roles involving internationally recognised brands such as Chanel, Dior, SK-II, TWG, Godiva, Jimmy Choo, Salvatore Ferragamo, Giuseppe Zanotti, Bally, Versace, Hugo Boss and Ralph Lauren, representing experience across more than 100 international brands.

Her final corporate role was with Aldo, where she led the brand's Malaysian market and successfully transformed one of its key product lines.

This combination of international brand experience, product development expertise and hands-on footwear knowledge became the foundation for Max's own approach to bespoke footwear.

In 2023, Max Kong opened her own bespoke shoe studio in Kuala Lumpur, bringing her international footwear design experience directly to customers.

She is a certified TTT Trainer and Course Consultant under the Malaysian Human Resources Department and serves as a Training Coach at the Selangor Human Resource Development Centre.

Throughout her career, Max has trained more than 70 footwear brands and over 500 emerging designers, helping aspiring entrepreneurs and designers develop their own self-created brands under the concept of "Made in Malaysia."

In 2023, Max also participated in the revision and reboot of the footwear industry's TVET training plan, which had not been comprehensively updated since 1998. She was recognised as a Subject Matter Expert in this industry development initiative.

Her work extends beyond designing shoes — she is also committed to helping develop the next generation of Malaysian footwear designers, entrepreneurs and manufacturers.

Sustainability Through Footwear Innovation

Max is also passionate about developing more sustainable approaches to footwear and materials.

Her philosophy is centred on finding ways to reduce waste and explore the use of recyclable and repurposed materials in footwear.

As Max has said:
